Universiade Square

Completed in 2000, Universiade Square is located between Houde Building and the library in Xili Campus (Xili Lake Area). Its name commemorates the 26th Summer Universiade (University Olympia), which was held in Shenzhen in 2011. Long Xi, a student from the School of Electronic and Communication Engineering, coined the Universiade’s slogan: “I’m Here.” Both the slogan and the mascot, “UU”, debuted during a volunteer kickoff by the organizing committee. The game uniform, titled “Grace in Motion,” was designed collaboratively by teachers and students. The University oversaw the volleyball preliminary venues, organizing competitions, and providing volunteer services at 23 competition venues. Li Dong, known as “the Interaction Guy” by his peers for his enthusiastic engagement with spectators and participants, was honored as the volunteer representative to receive the appreciation bouquet at the closing ceremony. On September 28, 2011, the initiative “University Renowned for Volunteerism” was launched and the name Universiade Square was formalized. Ever since, the Square stood as a Universiade volunteerism spiritual landmark, inspiring generations of students to carry on this legacy.  Three thematic panels on the stage relief backdrop on the east side of the Square depict the developmental journey of the University.
