Completed in 2001, Sifang Square is located between Xuesi Building and Deye Building in Xili Campus(Liuxiandong Area). Its name, “Sifang”(literally“Four Sides/Directions”), reflects both the University’s educational philosophy of collaboration between government, industry, enterprises and university, and the philosophical traditions embedded in classical Chinese spatial thought. An ancient sayingstates:“The four directions, together with above and below, constitute the universe.”In this sense,“Sifang”refers not only to physical orientation and but also to the traditional cosmological concept that“heaven is round and earth is square,”symbolizing harmony, order, and an all-encompassing vision of the world. The Square’s dignified, well-balanced layout symbolizes the integrity and diligence expected of teachers and students and reflects the University’s broad vision and ambitious future.
